Love this hidden park. Very peaceful and surprisingly large park tucked behind a subdivision. Only has a circular trail, non-accessible, that can get muddy. Great open area for picnics, but no facilities or playgrounds. Still, to play in the leaves in an out of the way place, or for a family hike (we saw deer, chipmunks and a garter snake), it is a great spot for an afternoon.
Nice location, plenty of wildlife, woodpeckers, deer, skunks, etc. Usually have the place to myself. Great for letting your dogs run free (might get wet & dirty, though!) For exercise, several large uphills and downhills to target your leg muscles. Free and convenient. Picnic tables and walking paths, dirt and old pavement.
This is a beautiful and surprisingly large park nestled in the middle of suburbia. Much of the park is heavily forested, while the back of the park is an open prairie with all manner of wildflowers, especially in the spring. The main loop is a moderate-grade mile long treadway with some hills and valleys, but there are also a few spurs and diversions along the way. (We ended up walking nearly three miles, including a separate grass loop around the prairie area.) It's the only designated ecological park in the St. Louis County system, so if you're into plants and wildlife, you'll love this. There are a couple of picnic tables at the front of the park in an unshaded area, but this is primarily a walking / hiking park.
